Bilqis (Sun Temple)

Bilqis (Sun Temple), originally uploaded by Claude@Munich.

Ancient Temple Mahram Bilqis (alternate Name: Temple of the Refuge, Sabaean Temple of Bilqis (=Sheba), Temple of Awwan or generally called by the ancient Yemenies "Al-Shams (the sun) Temple".), near Marib, Yemen.

Sabaean Temple with 8 tall megalithic pillars on a platform. The research indicates that it was at some point not just a sanctuary, but a "haram" place (prohibited or taboo).

Archaeologists believe Mahram Bilqis was constructed between BC700-800.
