In the early age of the Ancient Levant the alphabet was cuneiform.
Since the Canaanites took the power, the alphabet become the Canaanite alphabet, that was easier, and which was later adopted by the Greeks and passed to all the nations of the western hemisphere.

The AMARNA LETTERS (14th century BC) were found in the ruins of Pharaoh Akhenaton's capital, at El - Amarna.
They are clay tablets written in Babylonian cuneiform alphabet.

This is the diplomatic correspondence between the vassal princes to the Pharaoh (Amenophis III°, Akenathon and Tutankhamun).
They speak about the problems with the insurrections and instability of the area, as example with the Hapiru conducting raids on cities.

The Hapiru (ancient Egyptian for Hebrews) were small settlements of Canaanites, keeping their culture and traditions also during the Egyptian domination, starting the first basis of modern Israel.
